Year 12 Forum: Stuart Lawrence - Positivity Through Adversity
Colfe’s was delighted to welcome back Stuart Lawrence as part of the Year 12 Forum series. Stuart is the younger brother of Stephen Lawrence, the black British teenager murdered in a racially motivated attack in 1993.
Stuart has visited Colfe’s before to share his inspirational story of life throughout the event, life for his family and community in its aftermath, and again he spoke passionately of messages of hope and tolerance in the wake of his brother’s murder and the subsequent events. The family’s tireless campaign for justice for their son led to seismic cultural shifts and changes of attitudes within British society, the law, and the Metropolitan Police Force. The family’s story and their fight for justice remains as impactful and important today as it did nearly 30 years ago.
The Colfe’s Year 12 Forum is a series of weekly talks given by external speakers. These inspirational presentations have covered subjects including social justice, sport, and experiences of war. Each talk raises discussion and debate between our students and inspires them to question their own philosophies and their beliefs in the world around them.
