Year 12 Forum: Peter Hall - Wasted Youth
In the latest of the Year 12 Forum talks, Colfe’s welcomed Peter Hall to share his moving story of addiction, recovery and hope.
After a privileged upbringing, Peter spent 25 years “escaping from life”, and the last five years dealing with the fallout. His moving story of his experience includes prison, the judicial system, rehabs, divorce, drug addiction and alcohol abuse. His recovery began in earnest after a spell in prison followed by hospitalisation for alcohol abuse, and he spoke openly and eloquently about how it is possible to change one’s life around after years of abuse.
Peter recounted his story with honesty and frankness, in a refreshingly matter-of-fact manner, and his story stimulated much discussion about this important subject. His message came across clearly that education of the pitfalls is essential in helping others not to make the same mistakes he did – and his is ultimately a message of hope.
The Colfe’s Year 12 Forum is a series of weekly talks given by external speakers. These inspirational presentations have covered subjects including social justice, sport, and experiences of war. Each talk raises discussion and debate between our students and inspires them to question their own philosophies and their beliefs in the world around them.
