Prendergast House’s Charity Week got off to an especially paw-some start with a visit from Support Dog Lottie, who came to the school with her owner Sydney to launch the week on behalf of the Support Dogs charity, the beneficiary of the week’s fundraising.
Sydney and Lottie were the star guests at assembly, where Sydney spoke about Support Dogs and explained Lottie’s role in supporting her with a neurological condition, followed by a tour of the school. The VIP (very important pup) was an enormous hit with pupils and staff alike and Lottie, a Newfoundland-Poodle cross, took her role as charity ambassador in her stride, greatly enjoying the fuss made of her.
Several other fundraising events took place throughout the week, including a prize draw raffle, sweet treats and bake sales and an ice cream sale that was a particularly popular draw in the sunny weather. The week rounded off with a dodgeball competition.
A fantastic £500 was raised at school, which after having been kindly match-funded by the Leathersellers’ Company means a final donation of £1,000 has been made to Support Dogs.
Support Dogs is a national charity that provides, trains and supports specialist assistance dogs to help improve the lives of children and adults with various challenging medical conditions, including autism, seizure alerts and people with a wide range of disabilities.
