Summer Sport Success

Congratulations are in order for Colfe’s sporting stars after remarkable achievements in football, tennis, athletics, swimming, and fencing.

Alex (Y8) continues his stellar progress in tennis. As well as representing Kent in the County Finals against Surrey, narrowly missing out on the trophy in a very close tie-break, he has placed in the top 12 in the highest level of the U14 LTA National Doubles competition. He has now impressed so much he has been invited to be a practice partner and hitter for Grand Slam Champion and World No.1 doubles wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett.

Elsewhere in tennis, the U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U15 Boys, and U15 Girls have all qualified for the Division 2 County Finals in Canterbury.

Year 8 fencer Thea has picked up a multitude of accolades, including silver at the U13 Women’s épée, bronze at the U14 épée at the Youth Series in Liverpool, and placed 5th the British Championships. Thea is firmly established as top competitor in her age group and has been ranked 21st in the U17 Cadet rankings, among girls four years her senior.

Athletics has seen some extremely impressive performances, including national representation from Sam (Y10) at the English Schools Championships, and regional representation from Gabby (Y10) and Heidi (Y8) at the Regional Combined Events Championships. Gabby has also been announced as the Triple London Schools Combined Events Champion for the third year in a row.

Congratulations go too to all four of our athletics teams who qualified for the Regional Finals this year.

County representation in athletics was equally notable, with 24 pupils selected to represent Greenwich at the London Schools Competition. Splendid results came from the Cambridge Cup where Year 8 and 9 Girls were crowned Champions, Year 7 Girls and Year 8 and 9 Boys picking up runners-up medals, and a total haul of 11 medals.

In waterpolo, Lily (Y10) and Issy (Y8) have been selected to represent London at the National Games and still both continue to compete in the National Pathway at U16 and U14 level respectively.

Meanwhile, footballer Madison (Y7) has been offered an opportunity to train with the U14 Millwall Lionesses, while Dylan (Y7) has been picked to represent London for U12 cricket.

Director of Sport Nicci Rayes said:

“The PE department is nothing but proud of everything our pupils have accomplished, and we’re honoured to have played a part in their success. It is particularly rewarding to see such achievements across a range of sports, both individually and within a team. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next for all of them and hope they continue to work hard – we’re all rooting for you!”
