Learning Support

Senior School
Miss A Coode, Learning Support
acoode@colfes.com

Learning Support is based in the heart of the Senior School in a well-equipped classroom with computers, ipads, an interactive whiteboard and an abundance of learning resources and educational games.

Learning Support teachers are available before school, after school and during registration and lunchtimes. We work closely with all teachers providing training and information to help them provide suitably differentiated support in class to address individual learning differences.

We work with pupils from Years 7-13 either individually, or in small groups, and for a variety of reasons. Much of the support we offer centres around building confidence in learning and developing reading, writing, proof-reading and organisational skills. For Years 11-13 there is an added focus on study skills and essay planning – as well as supporting pupils in their journey to become independent learners beyond school.

We screen pupils in Year 7, and in Years 9 and above, to assess for and determine the most suitable Exam Access Arrangements where necessary. We put pupils at the centre of decisions, discussing their needs with them personally and addressing these accordingly.

Most importantly, the Learning Support team is a place where pupils can come for sympathetic, individually tailored support. Our aim is always to respond to an individual’s needs in a flexible and sensitive way to enable them to fulfill their potential. Many of our pupils with specific learning differences go on to achieve excellent results in public examinations.
