A Quiz night organised by a team of Sixth Form students has raised a fantastic amount of over £1600 for Colfe’s partner school the Kotu School in Gambia.

The event was the brainchild of Lea, Year 13, who galvanised friends to help out with organising and publicising the night and devising questions. The event proved extremely popular, with teams made up of parents and staff battling it out to take the top prize.

Prizes were generously provided by Teacher of Art Deirdre Feddes, while sustenance for the teams was organised by Lea and her team with support from the school and local restaurant Cafe Linda.

Lea said: “I wanted to organise this fundraising event, due to the huge impression the Gambia trip made on me, and everyone else who attended. It massively changed my outlook on life in London and the work-ethic and resilience of the people we met still inspires me daily. The trip was an unbelievable experience, which is why I wanted to continue bringing awareness to the importance of our partnership with Kotu Secondary School, as well as give back to the school, for all it has given to me. The money we have raised will help to develop the school’s infrastructure, which will continue to turn the school into one of the most highly demanded in the Gambia. I would like to say thank you for everyone who helped me to organise this event, as I could have never imagined it to be as much of a success as it was, and to Major Cherry especially for all of his constant support and running this incredible trip.”

Colfe’s affiliation with Kotu has been running for over 20 years, developing over the years from support with building projects to a wider focus on cultural and educational exchange between staff and pupils. Many Colfe’s students, including Lea, have enjoyed several visits to Kotu school over the years. The collaboration has included the funding of the building of a school hall, a home economics lab and a two-storey classroom block, as well as refurbishment of many existing buildings.
