As the summer term wrapped up for the end of the year, the Music Department hosted its final Summer Concert. Outstanding ensemble and solo performances made for a brilliant evening of jubilance and harmonious music.
As one of the most anticipated events of the summer term, the recital hall was bursting with family, friends and students last week. The Summer Concert gave the Senior School’s blossoming musicians the opportunity to show off their talent, performing in front of an audience who basked in the melodic tunes of the evening.
A vast range of music was featured in the programme: from the String Quartet’s beautiful rendition of Bach’s Air from Suite No. 3 and Saint-Saëns’ Sonata to Lennon and McCartney’s Hey Jude and Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline, sung by the Year 7 Band.
The varied programme enabled the students to truly showcase the wide range of musical talent and flair within the Senior School. The evening finished with an uplifting performance from the Senior Orchestra of Florence Price’s Juba Dance.
Mr Newberry, Director of Music, said: “I am incredibly proud of the hard work the Music Department and students have put in over this academic year. The beautiful pieces performed at the Summer Concert showcased the talent within our young musicians, and was a wondeful opportunity particularly to introduce our youngest performers to the school community.”
