Sport
Focus on the best? Or develop the rest? People often think it has to be one or the other, especially in sport. In fact you can have both – and at Colfe’s we do.
There is something for everyone here. Netball, rugby, girls’ hockey, swimming, cricket, football, athletics, cross-country, tennis and biathlon – all are open to every pupil.
From national and county level to block-fixtures against our local rivals. In the past year, every single pupil in Year 7 represented the school in some sort of competitive sport.

Scholarships
Sport scholarships are offered at Year 7 and Year 12.
At application stage, you are required to provide the following:
- A personal statement written by the applicant outlining their suitability for a Sport Scholarship. This should include their previous and, more importantly, current involvement in sport including school or representative honours
- One or more written recommendation(s) to confirm the applicant’s ability from at least one of the following: sports coach, PE/class teacher or county coach
- Details of preferred sports in order of preference
The next stage of the assessment process is to attend a first-round practical assessment session. You will be told if your child has been shortlisted for this stage after the entrance examination has been sat. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of fitness and will be expected to participate in, and demonstrate their ability in, core sports including netball, hockey, cricket, rugby, football and cricket. Applicants will need to be able to run at least 1500m, and if a potential swimming scholar must be confident swimming 100m continuously (4 x 25m lengths) in freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke, and 50m continuously (2 x 25m lengths) in butterfly. We would expect swimming scholars to be part of an external swimming club, training at least three times a week.
Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to attend a further second-round practical assessment. Applicants will be assessed on their ability in their chosen sport(s), their fitness and motor co-ordination, reactions to feedback and potential to contribute fully to the school sports programme. As well as ability, we look for potential and enthusiasm and we expect fitness appropriate for an elite sports performer.
Applicants may also be invited to attend a group interview session with the Director/Assistant Director of Sport.
Information on how to apply is available in our Admissions section.
13+ Sport Scholarships

Recommendations for the 13+ Sports Scholarships will be made internally by the Director of Sport.
