Sports Stars Shine over the Summer
Colfe’s’ sports stars had a busy summer of sporting competitions, with some fantastic achievements notched up by the young competitors.
Year 13’s Jack competed in the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics with Team Santa Monica and has subsequently been selected to represent GB in the U20 Water Polo Squad at the Next Generation International Tournament in Barcelona later in September, where the top youth Water Polo teams play.
Miya (Year 8) won the Kent U13 Pentathlon Championships this month; her achievement also included breaking a long-standing club record (Cambridge Harriers), which had stood since 1993!
Meanwhile in team sport, the Year 8 Girls’ football team enjoyed a trip to Sweden where they competed in the Gothia cup, the world’s largest youth football tournament in which teams from 80 nations participate.
Colfe’s rugby players continue to impress: Saracens U18s forward Jack (Year 13) won his first cap for England this summer, playing in the Internation Summer Series in South Africa, where the team competed against Ireland, Georgia and South Africa. Despite the tough opposition from the South African U20 team, who won the series, Jack and his teammates showed incredible strength, skill and teamwork in this exciting opportunity.
Meanwhile in the Junior School, Year 6’s George has gone from strength to strength being the highest wicket taker in his teams for Bromley and for Chislehurst and West Kent. He is playing a year above in the London Schools Cricket Association and has even played 4 years above his age group. The 157 runs he scored in the season are a promising start to the school year.
Nicci Rayes, Director of Sport, said: “Colfe’s is immensely proud of all the sports achievement this summer and continues to encourage students to strive for sporting excellence. We are so proud that the opportunities pupils get to in a range of sports at school can provide such a valuable springboard to further individual success.”
