Featuring a collaboration with music students from the Städtisches Gymnasium Rheinbach school near Cologne, this year’s Winter Concert provided a special treat for the audience.
Over 60 pupils from the Cologne school visited Colfe’s on a music tour, and following a day of workshops and collaboration, the orchestra and choir joined our own musicians to present a vibrant programme.
A broad Colfe’s repertoire ranged from Brass Ensemble performance of Lionel Bart’s Food Glorious Food to the 2nd movement of Mozart’s Kegelstatt Trio performed on clarinet, alongside pieces from the Early Music Group, String Quartet, String Ensemble, Glee Choir, Wind Band and Jazz Band.
The SG Rheinbach Choir performed numbers from Silent Night to a Mamma Mia medley, before a spectacular joint orchestral performance of selections from Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite.
A return visit from Colfe’s own musicians is planned for the summer term, with a tour to Germany that will include a visit to school and the performance of an evensong at the prestigious Cologne Cathedral.
