Pupils in the Junior school from Nursery to Year 6 enjoyed an exciting treat this week with the arrival of a Smoothie Bike.
With a wide array of delicious fruit to choose from, the children were invited to select which fruits to use to make up their smoothies, then cycled the Smoothie Bike to power up the juicer. The event was greeted with delight from the pupils who were just as excited about the prospect of the cycling as they were about the smoothie reward, and greatly enjoyed watching their smoothie take shape as they pedalled.
The initiative was provided by Colfe’s’ caterer Thomas Franks, and presented pupils with a choice of set recipes or the option of creating their own bespoke smoothie. With ingredients including beetroot, spinach, bananas, oranges and a wide range of berries, alongside constituent ingredients including milk, yoghurt and oats, the children had great fun choosing and creating their own recipes.
Junior School Head Marie-Clare Gilfedder Bonnar said: “The Smoothie Bike was a highlight of our week and generated much delight. The children were wowed by the colourful variety of fresh fruit on display, absolutely loved choosing ingredients and creating their own recipes, and cycling their way to create their very own smoothie. This has definitely inspired both pupils and staff to create their own smoothies at home over half term!”
Thomas Franks has recently launched a recipe booklet focusing on smoothies and healthy snacks, alongside recipe cards for several other nutritious dishes including chicken noodle soup and vegan lemon drizzle cake, available to Colfe’s families through MyColfes.
