Sixth Formers Start with a Splash

Year 12 launched headfirst into the new chapter in their school life with an away day packed full of outdoor activities. As part of a programme of events to help new and existing pupils get to know each other, the Adventure Day took place on a glorious sunny day at the Stubbers Lane Adventure Centre.

The new Sixth Formers enjoyed an action-packed day including raft building, laser tag, archery and canoeing, in the centre’s extensive Essex grounds that includes a lake and climbing tower. The raft building and canoeing was especially enjoyed by the group, with the water providing plenty of cool respite from the September sun.

The day aims to promote bonding as a year group, particularly welcoming the new Year 12s into the cohort, as well as nurturing teamwork skills.

As with all the activities arranged by the Outdoor Education Department, the event is also carefully designed to help develop students’ self-confidence, leadership and acceptance of challenge.

Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive about the day. Ben (Y12) said: “It was a great start to Sixth Form to have this adventure day, to help us all get to know each other and especially the new students who have joined Colfe’s. The day was loads of fun, especially the canoeing and sailing of the rafts we’d built, which didn’t all go to plan!”
