Two teams of keen readers from Years 7 and 8 emerged as winners and joint runners-up at the annual CWIZZ Book Quiz. This was the fifth time Colfe’s has won in recent years.
Run by CWISL (Children’s Writers and Illustrators for Stories and Literacy), the competition holds regional quizzes in south east and south west London and Surrey, with Colfe’s being the highest scoring winners overall.
Competing against a vast hall full of teams from local independent and state schools, questions covered a range of genre including heroes and heroines, little and large, extreme machines, a feast of questions, and a picture round based on book covers.
The students were all from Y7 and Y8, with the winning team being Louisa (Y8) and Lauren, Evelina and Isaac (all Y7). Second equal were Kitty and Henry (Y8) and Mwikali and Anna (Y7).
Colfe’s Librarian Henrietta Englefield said: “I am delighted by the level of enthusiasm for reading this year. Forty-two students competed for places in the Book Quiz Squad, and we hope that Year 7s who missed out this year will try again next year. The students were great fun to take on the trip, and it was lovely to see them all enjoying themselves, surrounded by other keen readers.”
