The Drama department was thrilled to welcome Jane Streeton, head of the singing team at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), who gave a fantastic singing and performance masterclass to Senior pupils.

Jane is the co-author of the book Singing on Stage: An Actor’s Guide, nominated for Outstanding Book of the Year for Theatre and Higher Education. For many years she has led the RADA singing team, playing a key role in voice training for actors and musical theatre in West End musicals, the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre and the BBC.

During the two-hour class, the group learnt a wide range of vocal techniques for acting and singing, across a range of musical genres, as well as practices for building confidence in public performance and learning how to enhance storytelling and stage presence through singing.

The afternoon included an informal Q&A session, where the students were able to ask questions about the industry, preparing for auditions, techniques and training tips.

Director of Drama Natalie Maher said: “We were delighted to be able to welcome such a renowned and experienced industry professional. Jane has given masterclasses around the world, with stars including Cynthia Erivo and Imelda Staunton, and has supreme expertise. This masterclass was a wonderful enrichment opportunity for our keen performers, from which they gained invaluable insight, technique and industry tips.”
