Oxbridge success at Colfe’s

Five Colfe’s students have received offers to attend Oxford and Cambridge universities this September for a wide range of subjects: Music, Geography, English Literature, Natural Sciences and Maths.

Headmaster Richard Russell said  “We were delighted to hear that five Year 13 students had received conditional Oxbridge offers this year, three from Cambridge and two from Oxford. Other candidates were placed in the inter-collegiate pool but narrowly missed out on offers.

Reports of de facto discrimination against independently educated candidates in favour of their state school counterparts have been widespread in the press in recent days. Colfe’s seems not to have been affected by this and our top candidates have performed well across a good range of subjects. It should be noted, however, that the conditions attached to the Mathematics offer were particularly eye-watering: two A* grades at A level, in addition to the A* which the candidate had already achieved in Maths at the end of Year 12, and grade 1 in two “STEP” papers.

We will do all that we can in the weeks ahead to ensure that all our Year 13 candidates who have received many excellent offers from a wide range of universities, are as well prepared as possible to meet the conditions of their respective offers.”
