Colfe’s is delighted to learn that alumna Ruby Collins (OC 2017) has won a position on the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as Sub-Principal-Bassoon.
Ruby joined Colfe’s at Year 7 in 2010 in the early days since the school had become fully co-educational. Her musicianship was evident early, and she took part in many concerts and performances during her time at Colfe’s. She went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Ruby has performed with both UK and German orchestras, including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Duisburg Philharmonic and Essen Philharmonic.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is Britain’s national symphony orchestra, the Official Associate Orchestra of the Royal Albert Hall, and renowned internationally, performing to over 60 million people around the world annually.
Director of Music Tim Newberry said: “From when she joined Colfe’s in 2010, Ruby’s musical skills shone, and throughout her time here we very much enjoyed helping nurture her talent. The Colfe’s community enjoyed hearing her perform on many occasions. We are now looking forward to opportunities to see her perform with the RPO.”
Ruby said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It has been an utter pleasure to work with this fantastic orchestra up until now and I am really looking forward to immersing myself in the upcoming concerts and tours.”
