Year 10 pupil wins coveted National Youth Theatre place

Ashlynn (Y10) has secured a place in the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.

The application process for the National Youth Theatre (NYT) is highly competitive, made even harder this year as applicants had to audition virtually due to COVID restrictions. Membership opens doors to a range of opportunities, such as involvement in NYT productions, taking part in training and access to NYT workshops and events.

Ashlynn said “I was overjoyed to get a place in the NYT. I enjoyed recording my audition and sending it off – I did a monologue piece from DNA by Dennis Kelly. I then had to do an interview over Zoom. I’d like to say a big thank you to Ms Maher for helping me prepare.”

Ms Maher, Director of Drama, said “We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who auditioned online this year. Taking part in the audition process is an exciting experience as it offers the opportunity to work with an industry professional. It takes grit, determination and resilience to get through. The National Youth Theatre is a wonderful stepping stone for our ambitious and talented pupils.”

Over the last three years 15 Colfe’s pupils have been invited to join the NYT, testament to the hard work that the Drama department puts into preparing pupils and nurturing their talent both onstage and backstage.
