Pupils achieve top marks in ABRSM exams

Music is an integral part of life at Colfe’s with nearly 300 pupils from Year 1 to Year 13 learning instruments.

Despite the pandemic, musicians across the school and their dedicated peripatetic teachers have continued to make music remotely and in person and do so with much success, as recent ABRSM exam results testify.

23 pupils took practical exams in a range of instruments including flute, violin, cornet, French horn, piano, clarinet and singing, with 86% of these pupils passing with either a Merit or Distinction. For a number of these pupils, it was their first singing exam – the Prep Test – and all passed with flying colours.

Special mentions go to Katie (Y10) and Millie (Y12) who both gained Distinction at Grade 5 in their singing exams and Lora (Y8) who gained a Distinction in her Grade 1 exam with an impressive score of 140/150. The examiner even commented on the excellent standard achieved given the disruptions of the pandemic.

Congratulations to all the pupils involved and to the peripatetic teachers who invest so much time in helping and encouraging Colfe’s budding musicians.
