Online storytelling session with Reception pupils

Professional storyteller and writer, Wendy Shearer, delighted our Reception pupils this week with her lively online telling of an African and Caribbean folktale, Anansi and Mr Dry-Bone.

The story details the efforts of rich Mr Dry-Bone and poor Anansi in their efforts to woo and win the heart of the beautiful Miss Louise by making her laugh.

During the half hour session, the children were completely immersed in the story thanks to Wendy’s energetic performance and her use of puppets and instruments.

Debbie Wheater, Reception Teacher said: “The children got into character as snakes, monkeys, parrots, and flamingos by moving and making the appropriate noises. It was wonderful to see their energy and participation.”

Siobhan Quinn, Reception teacher said: “This was storytelling at its best! The children were mesmerised, enthralled and fully engaged.”

Lucy Clarke , Reception teacher concluded: “A big thank you to Wendy for such a wonderful storytelling session. It was a real treat for both the Reception children and teachers.”
