Local sights inspire Artist In Residence

Colfe’s Artist In Residence, Lily German, will be hosting an exciting exhibition entitled S I N K from 14 July to 16 July at Safehouse 1, in Peckham.

S I N K takes inspiration from “things that fall and drop” combined with Lily’s love of the local area. She comments “As you walk along the River Thames there are so many different materials on the shoreline – I felt compelled by the heaviness of objects that sink in to the mud after the waters drains away.”

Lily was appointed as Artist-In-Residence in September 2016 shortly after graduating with a first class degree in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College – alma mater to Damien Hirst and Vivienne Westwood amongst others.

“I was attracted to the role at Colfe’s because it was such a unique opportunity and the facilities are wonderful,” says Lily. “Over the last year, I’ve enjoyed watching the pupils’ progress and their art work flourish, so I’m delighted that the school has invited me to stay for a further year. I can already see some really talented artists emerging – even those as young as Year 7.”

Lily will also be running free workshops alongside the exhibition – for more details about both, please click here.
