A day of art with the Royal Academy

Year 9 pupils have taken part in a workshop with Royal Academy artist Charlotte Steel, exploring different creative and artistic ideas. This included working with a live model and learning printing techniques with Colfe’s Artist in Residence, Lily German.

Charlotte said, “Colfe’s pupils really responded well in the workshop using observation, instinct and exploration. I hope this extended their understanding of the nature and processes of drawing techniques, showing how art can foster self-confidence and unlock potential while having a lot of fun.”

Pupil Miles Robson said, “I loved the different mediums of charcoal and printing – and that we had a whole day dedicated to art. It was a great experience.”

Artist in Residence, Lily German said, “I wanted the pupils to investigate different methods of drawing, experimenting with movement, layering figures and looking at how they could physically use the body to draw. As the day progressed, the children were smudged with charcoal, unselfconscious and totally relaxed.”
