House Music Competition 2022

Pupils and staff welcomed the return of the much-loved live House Music competition. The Beardwood Theatre was positively buzzing as pupils from all year groups collaborated to produce an entertaining evening of music. Each ensemble was capably led by the house musical directors, who did a superb job of recruiting performers, organising rehearsals and arranging the music.

The competition was judged by Old Colfeian Alexander Parsons, a professional composer in the film and television industry. After four fantastic solo performances across a range of musical styles, Ludwig (Year 10) took the individual prize for Prendergast House with his expressive interpretation of Schubert’s Impromptu No. 4.

The ensemble category was very closely contested, with each house offering a creative rendition of a popular song, adapted to suit the instrumentalists and singers. Although all the performances were fantastic, there could only be one winner, and

Prendergast’s energetic version of Teenage Dirtbag, led by Edith (Year 12) clinched the ensemble prize, and with it the overall winners’ trophy. The evening finished with a real flourish with a performance by staff band, ColfePlay.

Benedict Holmes, Director of Music said “Congratulations to Prendergast House whose wait for a win goes back to 2011, making this is a very sweet moment for them. The evening was a credit to all performers across the school; music is definitely back and thriving at Colfe’s.”
