Feel-good Factor at Summer Production with a Sparkling Performance of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾

Audiences in a packed Beardwood Theatre were treated to an uproarious production of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ The Musical at this year’s Summer Production.

Two sell-out performances of the show were held, performed by a talented and hardworking cast of pupils from Years 7-10 who wholeheartedly embraced the 1980s zeitgeist. The production, complete with plenty of joyous musical numbers, brought to life the much-loved story of lovelorn teenage poet Adrian Mole, played by Torin (Y8), opposite  Isabella (Y7) playing Pandora, the object of his unrequited love, and his rival Nigel, performed by Leon (Y8). The entire cast, including a talented chorus and dance ensemble, delivered a hilarious performance that kept up an incredible level of energy and musicality throughout.

The cast was supported by fellow pupils from Technical Theatre Club involved behind the scenes on the sound and lighting, while live music was provided by the band of pupils and staff members. Three pupils were Production Assistants, with a dedicated team responsible for a set, costumes and props that garnered huge praise for their quality and authenticity.

A parent commented: “The show was absolutely hilarious with excellent comic timing, it was so funny and was performed to an incredibly professional standard. You could tell how much the children clearly enjoyed delivering their lines, and they gave it their all.”

Ms Natalie Maher, Director of Drama, said: “I loved reading The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole when I was a teenager, and ever since taking my own son aged 13 ¾ to see the musical when it came to the West End I have wanted to bring it to Colfe’s. I knew this would be the perfect show for our summer production, and our Year 7-10 pupils did not let us down. Their attention to detail, their hard work and their enthusiasm has made this production an absolute joy to work on, and we are so proud of every one of them.

“I would also like to thank Ross Peters and the production team for the amazing set, wardrobe and props, and providing all things technical to make real the vision of my co-directors and myself. Thank you also to Musical Director Lauren Salter and our Music department, and choreographer Michaela Snee for helping create this vibrant and joyful show.”
