Director of Sixth Form Awarded MBE for Public Service

Colfe’s Director of Sixth Form, Spencer Drury, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list.

Mr Drury has been awarded the honour for Political and Public Service to the community, having demonstrated the same commitment and dedication to his local civic community as he has to the Colfe’s community. A long-standing resident of Eltham, he has strong connections with both the school and its surroundings in this corner of London: he is himself an Old Colfeian as were both his father and uncle, and he has been a much-valued member of the Colfe’s staff for 23 years. He began his teaching career at Kemnal Technology College, joining Colfe’s in 2000 as an Economics & Business teacher before taking up his current position as Director of Sixth Form in 2007.

An active member of the local community for over 25 years, Mr Drury has been a Trustee on several local organisations, including Eltham United Charities, Severndroog Castle Building Preservation Trust and most recently, Shooters Hill Sixth Form College where is he currently Vice-Chair.  He has also taken an active role in the political sphere, having been a Councillor in the Royal Borough of Greenwich from 2002 to 2022, including nine years as Leader of the Opposition.

Mr Drury said “I was surprised and delighted to receive the letter telling me I had been awarded this honour. It has been a pleasure to meet and work with some wonderful people and organisations over the years with the shared aim of safeguarding and improving the wonderful community assets of South-East London.  I am just very grateful to be recognised in this way.”
