Competitive Courses Offers for Year 13 Pupils

As the deadline approaches at the end of January for most university applications, a number of our Year 13 pupils have now received offers to study competitive courses from leading universities.

Five of our Year 13s have received conditional offers from Oxford or Cambridge across a range of subjects, and two have received offers from Imperial College London. One of last year’s leavers, meanwhile, has received a post-A-level unconditional offer to attend the Royal Veterinary College, a notoriously competitive field.

While the group are not underestimating the work still required, a moment of quiet pride was acknowledged, along with a sigh of relief that the gruelling process of interviews and assessments is completed. The support provided from the Sixth Form and Careers service was cited as important in preparing the group for the application process.

Abubakar, who joined Colfe’s at Year 12 as a Leatherseller Scholar, has an offer to read Archaeology and Anthropology at Keble College, Oxford. He said, “The interview and application process was quite stressful although still quite fun in a way. The support we got from school was really helpful.”

Emily, Katy, Millie and Eleanor (with offers to read Classics, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Modern and Mediaeval Languages at Cambridge, and English Language and Literature at Oxford), agreed: Emily said, “The mock interviews that Colfe’s arranged with the Sixth Form teachers and with external interviewers were especially useful and really helped prepare us.”

Jesse, who along with Ahan has received an offer from Imperial College to study Mechanical Engineering, said, “Applying for the course was tough but worth going through the process to get this far, and the support from the Sixth Form team, Careers service and Competitive Courses co-ordinator has all been brilliant.”

Headmaster Richard Russell said,

“We are delighted with these offers and all the others that have come through already from such a wonderful range of universities. The preparation of the students has been meticulous and they clearly came through strongly in the interview process. Congratulations to them all and to my colleagues who provided such wonderful support through the application process.”
