Colfe’s Quiz Team third in Championship Final

Colfe’s has achieved third place in the online final of the inaugural National Reading Champions Quiz.

The Colfe’s team selected from Years 7 and 8, made up of Shrey, Amabel, Anna and Natalie, went head-to head with 17 other schools across the UK to achieve this fantastic result. They had previously beaten 25 teams in the Thames Gateway heat where our B team (Amelie, Ben, Cade and Sofia) also performed fantastically, coming seventh overall.

Our enthusiastic readers tested their knowledge over a number of thrilling rounds, including ‘Locations and settings’, ‘Poetry’ and ‘Numbers in books’. The overall winners were St Helen & St Katharine School in Oxfordshire.

During the quiz, our pupils enjoyed seeing famous authors on screen, including the Children’s Laureate Cressida Cowell, Michael Rosen, Anthony Horowitz, Charlie Higson and David Baddiel. While it was disappointing not being able to meet the authors in person, having them beamed into Colfe’s was the next best thing!

Mrs Englefield, Head Librarian, said: “I want to congratulate the team for their collaborative effort over three hours of quiz questioning. They should be very proud of themselves.  Colfe’s has now made it to three national book quiz finals in a row, and have been placed in the top three every time which is an incredible achievement! We look forward to welcoming new Year 7 students to the quiz team next year.”

The annual quiz (successor to the Kids’ Lit Quiz) is led by the National Literacy Trust and funded by the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society in the UK.
