Colfe’s quiz team reach championship final

Colfe’s has beaten 25 teams to reach the final of the National Reading Champions Quiz.

Two teams selected from Years 7 and 8 were entered for the Thames Gateway heat of the quiz and both teams did brilliantly. The Colfe’s A team (Amabel, Shrey, Anna and Natalie) scored an impressive 77 points out of a possible 110 to win the heat, beating Bancroft’s School’s 71 points. The B team (Amelie, Ben, Cade and Sofia) also performed fantastically, coming seventh overall.

Our enthusiastic readers went head-to-head with their peers, testing their knowledge over 10 thrilling rounds which covered topics such as ‘Villains’ and ‘Partnerships’ to ‘Books on Screen’ and ‘Comic and graphic novels’. It also included a joker round.

Mrs Englefield, Head Librarian, said “The quiz teams practised hard and should be very proud of themselves. I am delighted that Colfe’s has made it to a third national book quiz final! Colfe’s has an enormous focus on reading in Key Stage 3 and our pupils’ enthusiasm for book quizzes, and our recent success, is evidence of this.”

The annual quiz (successor to the Kids’ Lit Quiz) is led by the National Literacy Trust and funded by the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society in the UK.

Congratulations to everyone who participated and to the many students who tried out for the teams.
