Colfe’s pupils win National Youth Theatre places

Congratulations to Evie (Y10) and Ruona (Y12) who have secured places at the highly prestigious National Youth Theatre (NYT) of Great Britain. With over 5,000 young people auditioning every year for around 500 places, this success is a huge achievement.

Auditions took place in February when NYT practitioners ran a workshop for 20 Colfe’s applicants in the Beardwood Theatre. Evie and Ruona will now be invited to attend an NYT membership course, after which they will become Company Members until the age of 26. Membership opens doors to a range of opportunities, such as involvement in NYT productions, taking part in training and access to NYT workshops and events.

Natalie Sycamore, Colfe’s Director of Drama said: “We are very fortunate to have welcomed the National Youth Theatre to Colfe’s again this year. Few schools have this privilege and we are incredibly proud of all the pupils who auditioned. Taking part in the workshop alone is an exciting experience and a fantastic opportunity to work with an industry professional. It takes hard grit, determination and resilience to get through a round of auditions. The NYT is a wonderful stepping stone for our ambitious and talented students.”

Over the last three years, 13 pupils from Colfe’s have been invited to join the NYT as both actors and theatre technicians, which is testament to the hard work the Drama Department put into nurturing talent both onstage and backstage.
