Careers Fair 2023

The first in-person Careers Fair since before the pandemic took place in the Senior School this week, with an incredible array of professional guests and huge number of pupil visitors.

Over 300 pupils from Years 10-13 attended the biennial event, with representatives from over 100 professions there to inspire them. Professions covered everything from the arts, medicine, law, finance and hospitality to anthropology, engineering, fashion and counter-intelligence. Many of the representatives were Old Colfeians themselves or parents of current pupils.

Universities and gap-year organisations were also in attendance, providing valuable information about life after Colfe’s and tasters of gap-year adventures waiting to be discovered, including volunteering opportunities in the UK and abroad.

Ben, Year 11, said: “It was really inspiring seeing the options available with all the different careers that are out there. It was also great to find out more about experiences outside the normal university route, such as apprenticeships, and about the opportunities there are for gap-year activities. Definitely lots of food for thought.”

A parent of a Year 12 student said: “The Careers Fair was a very inspiring evening, and opened our eyes to the world of possibilities out there. Having representatives from such a wide variety of industries was extremely helpful and informative. It all gave my child excellent first-person insight into real-world experiences.”

Head of Careers Debbie Bean said: “It was tremendously exciting to resume our in-person Careers Fair, and what a way to come back! We had a fantastic variety of careers represented. Thank you to all our guest contributors, and we were delighted to welcome back many Old Colfeians to talk to our current students. Our aim is not only to provide deeper insights for those who might already have a clear path ahead, but also to provide inspiration for those who may not. If every student came away from the evening with at least one new idea about their future then we will have been successful.”
