Mystery, Intrigue and Parody at the Winter Production
Tom Stoppard’s parody masterpiece The Real Inspector Hound, was brilliantly brought to life at this year’s Senior School Winter Production, performed by a cast from the Sixth Form and supported by student technicians from across the Senior School.
Performed over two nights, the production received a rapturous reception from the audience in the Beardwood Theatre.
First performed in 1968 and drawing on Stoppard’s experiences as a theatre critic, the play is a witty parody of a classic parlour murder mystery, seen through the lens of two pompous, obsessive and philandering theatre critics, Moon and Birdboot. As the ludicrous whodunit plays out, the critics become dangerously involved in the action, setting off a chain of lethal events that mirror the play they are watching and blur the boundaries between fiction and reality.
Director of Drama Natalie Maher said “It has been an absolute joy to work with such an enthusiastic and hard-working group of talented and creative students, both on and off the stage. The wonderful reception from the audience was thoroughly deserved, and we are so proud of them all. Huge thanks go to our wonderful costume and props team, our school Site team, catering and Front of House team, and to our theatre technician Ross Peters for building the set, providing all things technical, and so brilliantly realising the vision of my co-director Danielle Sutherland and myself.”
The Winter Production is a highlight of the Drama calendar, and offers pupils an excellent opportunity to get involved with the theatre, whether acting, costume or set design, stage management, or technical production.
