Key Stage 2 Library Officially Opened
Colfe’s was delighted to welcome several of our Governors to the Junior school to officially open the newly refurbished KS2 Library. We were grateful in particular to current Governor and former Head of Colfe’s Junior School Mrs Belinda Canham, who performed the traditional ribbon-cutting to mark the formal opening of the new space. The official opening included readings from the School Captains and Library Prefects, followed by a walkabout by the Governors.
The Library space was redesigned in the summer of 2023, extending and improving the spaces for reading, browsing the shelves or games of chess, including central sofa sections, flexible soft seating, and bean bag chairs in reading nooks. The entire room was redecorated, along with changes made to allow plentiful light in all areas of the room, and new curved bookshelves were designed to enable easier and more independent browsing.
Each class in KS2 (Years 3-6) has a dedicated library lesson where they enjoy guided reading sessions led by the two librarians and their class teacher. Lunchtime library sessions are also run three times a week, to which pupils can drop in to read, research or talk to the librarians.
The library contains a vast range of texts for the children to browse and borrow, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and newspapers, with stock reviewed and replenished regularly. The librarians are on hand to talk to pupils and make recommendations for personal reading and on class-related topics.
