Sport
Teamwork, personal progress and - above all - fun
At Colfe’s the ethos of the Physical Education (PE) department is to plan and deliver safe and exciting lessons that challenge and support children’s learning both physically and mentally.
Individual and team sports are offered alongside by a diverse co-curricular programme of activities and fixtures against other schools. We also have ‘learning based fixtures’ where the onus is on developing basic skills and sharing experiences of playing in mixed teams. We encourage our most able students to pursue sports outside of school to maximise their potential and celebrate all levels of success regularly in assembly.
In Key Stage 2, a wide range of co-educational sporting activities are offered across the year. In the autumn term boys and girls play both netball and rugby; the spring term is hockey and football and in the summer term cricket is the main focus.
Our PE curriculum ensures the children access swimming lessons across both the autumn and spring terms with the House Galas taking place in the summer. The other sports taught in PE include gymnastics, volleyball, short tennis and a variety of striking, fielding and invasion games to support the Games curriculum. Throughout the year the children take part in House events including a cross country run and other endurance based events such as biathlons.
