Impressive Results for Colfe’s Mathematicians
Sixth Form mathematicians scored some impressive results in recent national Mathematical competitions, achieving a notable number of distinctions, merits, and gold certificates.
10 girls from Years 12 and 13 entered the national Mathematical Olympiad for Girls in a gruelling 2.5 hour exam, not for the faint-hearted. Two distinctions and six merits were awarded.
Meanwhile, in the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge, seven Further Maths A-level students from Year 13 achieved Gold awards, progressing to the Senior Kangeroo stage of the competition. Two students shared the Best in School award with an equal score of an impressive 88.
The competitions are run by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust, aimed at promoting and advancing the education of young people in mathematics. The Mathematical Olympiad for Girls is a challenging competition aimed at young women across the UK, while the Senior Mathematical Challenge encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
Congratulations to all these talented mathematicians!
