The summer and start of the autumn term has seen some fantastic performances in hockey by both staff and pupils, with gold medals aplenty.

For Sophia (Y7), the summer not only marked the end of junior school and the start of senior school, but also saw her win gold for Lewisham U14s hockey team at the London Youth Games. Competing against and alongside girls two years her senior, Sophia was part of a team that conceded only one goal throughout the final day of competition and achieved a convincing 4-0 win in the final.

Amelia (Y12) played her first Premier League Hockey Fixture for Holcombe and took part in the National Talent Academy U18 tournament over the summer.

Meanwhile Colfe’s own Head of Hockey, Annabel Owen, brought home gold after being selected to play for the England Hockey O40s team. There were two major competitions over the summer, the European Championships in Valencia and the Four Nations in Glasgow. The team was unbeaten in both competitions and finished as double gold medallists.

Director of Sport Nicci Rayes said: “I am delighted to see these fantastic performances by our girls in hockey. And it is inspirational for our pupils to see Annabel, our very own Head of Hockey, compete and win at the highest level in the sport. Girls’ hockey is a key part of the sport provision here, and we are so lucky to have Annabel at the helm.”
