A large number of pupils from the junior and senior schools took part in this year’s Mini London Marathon, completing the mile-long course under clear blue skies and sunshine that was glorious, certainly for spectators if not competitors.
Twenty-five participants took part from the junior school, from Reception all the way to Y6, with some highly impressive results achieved. Eleven Colfe’s runners placed in the top 50, from a wave of 430, with an outstanding result from Year 5’s Stan, who not only placed a close second in his wave, but also 14th in the whole event comprising 15,000 junior runners.
Senior pupils were equally impressive, with several pupils from Years 8-11 competing in the senior race.
The race took place along the last mile of the London Marathon itself, finishing at the landmark site on the Mall. As the main Marathon marked its 45th year, the Mini London Marathon celebrated its 40th anniversary, and suitably impressive special gold finishers’ medals were awarded.
Head of Junior PE and Games Andrew Knowles said: “It was a fantastic event with some really excellent performances. All our runners breezed through the course despite the heat, and to end with 11 runners in the top 50 of their group was an excellent achievement. Stan had an outstanding performance finishing 14th in the entire junior category. We look forward to seeing what these athletes do next.”
