Year 10 GCSE Drama students enjoyed a fantastic physical theatre workshop with Highly Sprung theatre company this week.
The all-day workshop was the first time the school has worked with Highly Sprung, and provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop their performance skills and explore different approaches to theatre. All 24 Year 10 Drama students took part, working in small groups to explore physical theatre techniques, transitions, and using lifts. The day culminated with full ensemble collaborative work, incorporating the performances of the breathtaking lifts and dynamic pieces that the students had created throughout the day.
Director of Drama, Natalie Maher, said: “Working with Highly Sprung has been an incredibly powerful experience for our students. To see them step outside their comfort zones with such commitment, lifting, supporting and trusting one another physically and creatively, has been extraordinary. They were stretched, challenged and inspired by working with industry professionals, and the level of focus, bravery and joy in the room was palpable.
“This kind of physical theatre work unlocks confidence, ensemble awareness and expressive freedom in a way that stays with students long after the workshop ends. The energy in the space was electric, with students quite literally flying, and the impact on their creative development has been profound.”
