Colfe’s was ably represented by three teams from Years 7 and 8 at the recent SE London Book Quiz run by CWISL (Children’s Writers and Illustrators for Stories and Literacy) at Dulwich College.

Although the teams narrowly missed out on the top place after being pipped to the post by JAGS, the literary whizzes came an impressive 2nd, 3rd, and 4th out of over 30 competing teams.

Librarian Henrietta Englefield said: “Competing in book quizzes remains high profile and very popular in the younger years of the senior school. We are extremely proud of the literary knowledge and the performance put up by our team, and are particularly pleased to see such enthusiasm for reading from our recent recruits to Year 7. The fact that we were able to field three such strong teams reflects very positively on the strength of reading culture within the school.”

Year 7’s Alice and Louise reported on the experience:

As members of the Colfe’s School book quiz squad, we really enjoyed an afternoon at Dulwich College, taking part in the CWIZZ book quiz, run by CWISL (Children’s Writers and Illustrators for Stories and Literacy). The quiz questions were fun and challenging, covering a wide range of our team members’ expertise. The author readings were very interesting, giving us enticing extracts of their books. As a school, we were very proud that the three Colfe’s teams came second, third and fourth out of over thirty other teams from schools in the area. We are very grateful to all the staff who helped organize and run the pleasurable event. We hope we get the opportunity to go back next year!
