Talented Senior student editors have published the fourth issue of the Culture@Colfe’s magazine, a journal of the cultural life at the school.

The magazine is packed with features, reviews, stories, poetry and artwork and is written, edited and produced by student members of the Culture society, with guidance from Teacher of English and staff editor Ms Diamond. The student editors include pupils from Year 7 all the way to Year 13, with members comprising: Samantha (Y13), Morgan (Y13), Xanthe (Y13), Emily (Y10), William (Y10), Isabel (Y10), Verity (Y10), Henry (Y7) and Lena (Y7).

Not only is the Spring/Summer ‘25 edition a bumper issue, but with a nod to the classical world, it is also a special issue to mark the upcoming retirement of Headmaster Richard Russell. As well as an interview with Mr Russell, the edition includes winning submissions to the Society’s recent writing competition which invited students to submit a poem or story inspired by a classical myth or figure. Ranging from a dramatic poem on Persephone’s abduction to a foreboding tale of Daedalus’ treatment by King Minos and an atmospheric story of Haemon and the curse of Lycaon, features also included reviews of theatre productions of Oedipus, Elektra and Aristophanes’ Frogs, and an essay pondering what makes a classical hero heroic.

Copies of the magazine will be distributed at the upcoming Culture Day later in June; digital copies are available to download in the link below.
