Culture, history, language and winter sports were the flavour of the month in April, as many pupils in both senior and junior schools enjoyed overseas trips over the Easter holidays.
The Modern Languages department organised two trips at the start of the holiday, to Brussels and to Berlin. The trips took in many of each of the cities’ notable historic, cultural and architectural features, both of which were hugely enjoyed by all participants. The Berlin trip also had thought-provoking visits to sites of particular historical significance including the Holocaust Memorial, Sachsenhausen concentration camp and the Berlin Wall.
Seventy pupils from years 8-10 travelled to Les Deux Alpes for a week of skiing in the first week of the Easter holidays, accompanied by seven staff. Skiing conditions were perfect, sunny with soft powder at the top on the Glacier at 3600m. The pupils ranged from complete beginners to expert skiers with many years of ski experience, with a fantastic time had by all. In addition to five hours of lessons each day, the group enjoyed plenty of après ski activities including bowling, laser tag, movie night and karaoke where a ban on mobile phones meant that pupils could really let their hair down.
Head of Physics and trip leader John Fishwick said: “As the sun shines in London, the Easter ski trips may seem a world away, but we all have wonderful memories of this brilliant trip. The 2026 trip to Montgeneve is already getting booked up!”
Meanwhile, 30 Junior school pupils from year 5 and 6, accompanied by four staff, enjoyed their own ski trip to the Italian alpine resort of Claviere on the French border.
Alongside the skiing, the trip also included plenty of après ski as the children enjoyed bowling, eating crepes and sledging along with skiing across the border into France where the group enjoyed a slope-side packed lunch – with plenty of snowball fights.
