Colfe’s Success at the London Mini Marathon
Junior school pupils came out in force to represent Colfe’s at the TCS Mini London Marathon at the weekend.
Despite ominously grey skies, 30 pupils from years 3-6 took part in the one-mile race around St James’s Park, ending the run crossing the iconic London Marathon finish line and winning their own Mini London Marathon medal. Every one of the pupils put in 100 percent effort and did the school proud. Particularly impressive feats came from Christian (Y6), Stan (Y4) and Ben (Y5) who came second, third and fourth in their respective groups.
Race title partner TCS donated to each school £10 for every participant; the Colfe’s contingent pooled the funds and has donated the proceeds to the Remembering Rycroft charities, set up in memory of former Colfe’s teacher’s young son.
Junior school Head of PE and Games Mr Andy Knowles said, “We are extremely proud of this talented group. They all put in so much effort and entered into the spirit of the race with determination and enthusiasm. They showed tremendous sportsmanship, supporting each other and cheering on all the runners. Well done to Christian, Stan and Ben who achieved great personal times, and to every one of the runners.”
Senior school had its own representation at both the London Marathon itself and the Paris Marathon earlier in the month. Head of Football Charlie Barthorp completed the London race, raising over £2,000 for the Inner London Samaritans, while Head of Netball Hope Russell took on the same distance in the Paris event, raising over £4,000 for the Prospect Hospice.
Meanwhile, Year 13’s Nate took a day off A level revision and took on the TCS London Marathon My Way, completing the same 26.2 mile distance on an alternative route and raising funds for Welicar Educational Centre in Nairobi.
