The Colfe’s community came together to mark this year’s Remembrance with the annual Remembrance Service and throughout school on Armistice Day.

The Colfe’s Combined Cadet Force Squadron led the annual Service on Remembrance Sunday at the Old Colfeian RC Horn Park ground, where the junior and senior school captains laid wreaths, followed by a two-minute silence.

At the Senior school the focus was on encouraging people to talk to their relatives and hear about the experiences of their family members in the wars.  A Remembrance assembly was held on Armistice Day, 11 November, in which members of the History Ambassador Team shared stories about family members who sacrificed their lives in war. The day was also marked at school with the customary two-minute silence at 11am, with pupils engaged in silent reflection.

Head of History, Madeleine Forbes, said: “Many of the Colfe’s community are directly connected to the Remembrance history through family members, whether great-great grandparents who witnessed World War first hand or closer relatives of fallen soldiers in recent conflicts. We hope that our emphasis on this theme for this year’s Remembrance encouraged our pupils to have conversations with families and listen to stories of generational sacrifices, helping to carry forward their legacy beyond the battlefield.”
