National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

Lifeguarding is a great position for young people, looking for their first job, or as a second job to help increase your income. Colfe’s Leisure Centre operate in-house lifeguard courses throughout the year. Courses are five days, with a mixture of theory and practical work.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 16 years old
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design allows

National Rescue Award For Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)

NRASTC is a supervision and rescue award for swimming teachers, coaches and (or) instructors working during programmed activities, such as swimming lessons. It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools where the water depth is higher than the teachers’ standing depth and meets the individual facility’s Risk Assessment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 16 years old
  • Swim a minimum of 50 metres on your front and back
  • Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without using steps or ladders (where venue design permits).

SEQ Level 1 Swim Assistant (Teaching) Qualification

The SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification is a practical qualification to start your career in swimming. This qualification will provide you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to assist a qualified Swimming Teacher in delivering high quality inclusive swimming lessons in a range of settings, for example at a leisure centre, swim school or club learn to swim programme.

Requirements

  • You must be 16 years of age or older on the first day of the course.
  • No formal entry requirements or prior experience required.
