It has been an outstanding half-term of sport, with Colfeians excelling across a wide range of sports and competitions.
The term ended with a heroic performance on the football pitch from the 1st XI boys, which saw them take the trophy of the ISFA Shield National Championships after a 1-0 victory, a win which epitomised the playing style of the season. Teamwork was outstanding, the team won almost every challenge and the midfield was outstanding, creating chances throughout. A penalty late in the first half was taken with poise and confidence by the captain, Quinn (Y12), and the second half saw the defence hold firm till the final whistle when the celebrations began.
Cross country also brought cause for celebration. As well as being crowned U15 London Schools Champion, Charlotte (Y9) has been selected to represent English Schools at the International Athletics Board Competition. The success continued for our younger athletes, with the Year 7 boys winning the Interborough Championships – Max taking Gold and Will securing Bronze. The season for this remarkable squad now includes Borough, London Schools and Interborough titles, as well as qualification for the National Schools Finals.
Meanwhile, in athletics Miya (Y9) took gold in shotput at the Kent Indoor Athletics Championships – and her new personal best ranking her 1st in the UK for her group, an outstanding achievement.
It has been a superb term for aquatics: the U18 girls won the National Schools Plate water polo championships, retaining the title for the third year in a row, while the U15 girls meanwhile picked up the bronze medal. Congratulations also to Issy (Y11), Rose (Y9) and Louisa (Y8), who helped their club, Beckenham, reach the U17 National Age Group Final. The U18 boys’ water polo team produced a series of superb performances to win the London League B Final, defeating Harrow 7–3, Eton 2–1 and Bishop’s Stortford 3–2 in a memorable run of results.
In rugby, the U18 boys won their group at the Roslyn Park Rugby National 7s, while the U16 boys were runners-up in the Kent Cup. Our pupils also did the school proud on the tennis courts as both our U18 girls and U18 boys’ teams made to the semi-finals of the Kent Doubles Championships.
Thea (Y11) won the Silver medal at the Public Schools National Fencing Competition, representing Colfe’s at the Junior Epee Category. With 54 girls competing from schools the country, Thea performed brilliantly and was the number 1 seed going in the elimination rounds
Further afield, Andrea (Y12) represented the school with distinction, returning from an international artistic swimming competition in Poland with both Gold and Bronze medals.
