Following Championship triumph in the 2022 National Reading Champions Quiz, a team of avid readers from Years 7-9 have made it through to this year’s live final to defend the Colfe’s title.
Seeing off competition from 21 other teams from South-east London, Leila, Reuben, Natalie and Verity won the regional heat of the National Literacy Trust’s competition, each taking home a book token along with the regional trophy. The team will now compete in the grand final in June.
The National Reading Champions Quiz, now in its third year, is aimed at promoting reading enjoyment, encouraging diverse reading, and improving reading stamina. The quiz covers a wide range of questions based on fictional titles, involving book titles, characters, authors, brain teasers and story details. Multiple genres of fiction are featured, drawn from today’s breadth and variety of children’s publishing as well as well-known books and authors, from fields including comedy, horror, graphic, LGBTQ+, historical, classic, BAME and sport.
Head Librarian Henrietta Englefield said: “We are delighted to be representing South-east London in the national final again. Colfe’s has a strong focus on promoting reading for pleasure, especially with this age group, and it has been lovely to see the enthusiasm for participating in book quizzes. Our number one aim in book quizzes has always been to have fun.”
The team has enjoyed its first taste of press coverage after being featured in a South London Press article – read here.
