Christmas Festivities Begin

The start of the festive season has begun in style as our very youngest pupils in Nursery and Reception performed the traditional Nativity in front of a large audience in the Senior Hall.

From menageries of animals including sheep, cattle, mice and Maurice the mule, to shepherds, wise men and a Christmas star, the children played their parts and sang their songs with gusto and focus.

Head of Junior School Marie-Clare Gilfedder-Bonnar said: “The EYFS Nativity signalled the start of the most magical time of year in school.  The retelling of the Nativity story is a rite of a passage and pupils, and it was wonderful to observe pupils, many as young as three years old, perform with increasing confidence, to see the bonds they have with their classmates and, my personal favourite, to watch them wave enthusiastically when they spot their loved ones in the audience. There was not a dry eye in the hall when they sang Away in a Manger!”

As the end of term and Christmas holidays approach, far from resting on its laurels, the school prepares for a packed seasonal schedule, including the senior school Winter Production, the Y3-Y4 production of Jack and the Beanstalk, trips to Christmas Markets, concerts, and the whole school Carol Service.
