Christmas Celebrations
The school has been buzzing with festive activity in the run-up to the end of term, with a swathe of productions and performances.
Our youngest pupils in Nursery and Reception enchanted the audience with their performance of Born in A Barn. Alongside the traditional Nativity story, the characters were joined by farm animals, played enthusiastically by the children as groups of cats, chicks, sheep, cows and pigs.
Years 3 & 4 brought some dynamic energy with a vibrant performance of The Three Little Pigs. Based on Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes version, this joyful production included plenty of musical crowdpleasers with confident and animated performances of Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton and Steps numbers.
Children across the Junior School were also treated to their own Christmas shows to watch, with visits from the ballet company Let’s All Dance, whose performances of the Nutcracker and A Christmas Wish delighted pupils.
The Senior School’s Winter Concert captured the Christmas spirit. Parents enjoyed fantastic performances from our Senior Orchestra, String, Folk and Brass ensembles, Jazz band, Wind band, Musical Theatre Club, and singers, with a repertoire including seasonal favourites such as Jingle Bell Rock, In The Bleak Midwinter and White Christmas alongside pieces from Elgar, Bach and even the Beach Boys.
The Carol Concert at St Mary’s Church in Lewisham brought together pupils from the Senior and Junior schools in a magical celebration including the customary Seven Lessons and Carols, plus a performance from Year 6 of the traditional Ukrainian carol Shchedryk Shchedryk (The Carol of the Bells), sung in Ukrainian.
This piece had arisen after some of the Ukrainian pupils had approached Music teacher Caroline Epps offering to teach the lyrics to their classmates. The project led to involvement with Young Voices, who publicised it to schools across the UK encouraging pupils to join. Our Year 6 singers have even featured in a special broadcast performing the carol on an ITV News report, plus coverage in the BBC’s daily podcast Ukrainecast.
