Colfe’s was delighted to welcome 16 talented young mathematicians from local junior schools to the Year 5 Mathematics Masterclass. The children joined 12 Colfe’s junior pupils in a morning of exciting mathematical games and problem-solving activities.
The pupils represented seven local schools, comprising All Saint’s Primary School, Blackheath Prep, Brindishe Green, Brindishe Lee, Halstow Primary School, Invicta Primary School and John Ball Primary School.
The event began with some lateral-thinking puzzles involving matchsticks and counters, challenging students to think creatively, before moving into team-based activities across four dynamic rounds: tackling tricky mathematical problems, enjoying interactive computer games, applying maths to real-world scenarios, and ending with a fast-paced race through a high-energy maths relay
Participants received a certificate to celebrate their hard work, and the top three teams were awarded bronze, silver, and gold certificates and medals, presented by Deputy Head, Donna Graham.
Mrs Graham said: “A huge thank you to organisers Dr Buescu and Mrs Hirani, and our Year 12 helpers who provided encouragement and helped the pupils approach each task with confidence and teamwork. Well done to all who took part, and special congratulations to the winning teams from Invicta, Blackheath Prep and Halstow.”
