Celebrating GCSE success
Colfe’s pupils are celebrating GCSE success this morning, with over half the year group achieving the top grades of 9-7/A*-A – more than double the national average – and 75% of pupils securing 9-6/A*-B grades.
Amongst the individual successes was Panos who achieved a clean sweep of 12 grade 9/A* – the very top grade awarded. He was one of three pupils who studied Ancient Greek in their spare time and achieved top grades. Panos will study Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Physics in the Sixth Form. “I really tried and worked a lot but I was still really surprised. Thanks to my mum and my teachers who always pushed me further. I’m really looking forward to A-levels.” Mrs Jane Philalithis, Panos’ mother, said “The teachers and the support offered around exams have been amazing. The additional materials and classes really took away some of the stress. We are very proud.”
Alexandra achieved 9 grade 9/A*, Alexandra said “I’m really pleased. I didn’t think I’d do that well. Thank you to the teachers they’ve been a massive help.” Logan also achieved 9 grade 9/A* and Ryan achieved a total of 11 grade 9/A* .
Headmaster Richard Russell said “This year’s candidates include some of our very best performers in recent years. The new GCSEs are quite a bit tougher than their predecessors and it’s great to see so many pupils doing so well. I look forward to welcoming them back into the Sixth Form next week.”
