British Science Week Starts with a Bang at the Junior School
Junior school pupils got hands-on celebrating British Science Week, with a week packed full of activities and workshops exploring this year’s theme of ‘Connections’.
The week got off to an explosive start with a visit from school workshop and party providers Science Boffins, whose assemblies and interactive workshops provided plenty of thrills for pupils from Reception to Year 6. The grand finale of a rocket launch on the school field was keenly anticipated and did not disappoint the crowd from both Junior and Senior schools.
The wonders of the natural world were enjoyed by pupils in Years 2, 3 and 4 with interactive workshops from animal encounter experts ZooLab, allowing plenty of hands-on encounters with a menagerie of mini-beasts. Meanwhile, there was great excitement amongst our youngest pupils in the Nursery after the arrival of hatching eggs, which brought a wonderful surprise half way through the week when two ducklings hatched.
To celebrate our connection with nature, over the course of the week all pupils planted their own sunflower in our second annual growing competition. Each pupil took their seedling home and were encouraged to care for them throughout the spring and summer terms; prizes will be awarded later in the summer term for the tallest plant and widest flower head. Plenty of creativity has also been on display after pupils were also encouraged to submit entries for the British Science Week poster competition.
