Teaching and Learning
High expectations, tailored support, excellent outcomes
Just as there is no single profile of learner, at Colfe’s there is no single method for teaching – other than striving for consistent excellence.
From the day your child joins Colfe’s, we work to understand their particular strengths and personalise our approach so they flourish and progress, stretching and challenging each child according to their profile. Our teachers engage and encourage every child to aim high in a culture of support and aspiration. We get to know our pupils, and we respond to their needs to enable them to thrive.
From Nursery to Year 13, our teachers have deep knowledge of their subjects, are highly qualified and are passionate about what they teach. From Computer Science to Classics, our teachers are subject specialists and we support them with a comprehensive programme of training and reflective practice based on the latest research.
Our early curriculum is designed so children do not just master but exceed the learning objectives within the National Curriculum. As pupils progress through school, we build opportunities within all subject areas for development of critical thinking, oracy and reflection. Such opportunities include the English Speaking Board qualification in Year 6, the formal Presentation that pupils give to their classmates in Year 7, and a Poetry Slam event in Year 8. As pupils move towards the public examination years, we develop their metacognitive skills, teaching your children how to set their own goals and revise effectively.
In a world of rapid development, we recognise that technology and AI-based adaptive learning can enhance the learning experience – but technology is our servant, not our master. Our pupils and staff take full advantage of the evolving opportunities offered by new technology, but it does not rule us.
The tried and tested methods that see pupils thrive – writing by hand on paper and focusing on a knowledge-rich curriculum – is what will enable your child to develop the skills they need to flourish and attain the results they need to open doors and have choices in their future life, both for top university places and beyond.
